Studio Hire in Leeds: Prices Compared (2026)

What studio hire actually costs in Leeds in 2026: hourly, half-day and full-day rates compared, what's included at each price point, and the add-ons to watch for before you book.

Hiring a photography studio in Leeds costs roughly £40–£100 an hour in 2026, depending on the space, the kit included and where it is. At Dock Street Studio, dry hire starts at £50 an hour, a half day is £175 and a full day is £300–£350 — with pro lighting, backdrops and a city-centre location included in every rate.

Those headline numbers only tell half the story, though. The real cost of a studio booking is the hourly rate plus everything the hourly rate doesn't include. Here's how to compare properly.

How studio hire pricing works in Leeds

Most studios price one of three ways:

Hourly. Flexible and cheap-looking, but minimum bookings usually apply, and short slots disappear fast into setup and pack-down time.

Half day / full day. Better value per hour once a shoot involves any real setup. If you're doing more than a quick portrait session, this is usually the sensible unit to book in.

Rates by use. Some spaces charge differently for photography, video and events, or offer discounted community and student tiers at off-peak times.

What's actually included?

This is where quotes that look identical can be £100 apart in practice. Before you book anywhere — including with us — check what the rate covers:

Lighting. Some studios rent the room and charge per light on top. At Dock Street, Elinchrom and Godox lighting is included in the hire, along with modifiers.

Backdrops. We include a 2.7m Colorama system and a green screen. Elsewhere, paper backdrops are often a per-metre consumable charge.

Space and ceilings. Our studio is 450+ sq ft with 10ft ceilings — enough height for overhead lighting and full-length work. Smaller rooms are cheaper for a reason.

Access. On-site loading, secure parking and wheelchair access are all part of the deal here. If you're hauling kit across a city on foot, cheap hire gets expensive quickly.

We keep a full run-down on the studio hire page, and our post on what's included in a studio rental digs into the add-ons question properly.

How Leeds studios compare

Across the city you'll find hourly rates from about £40 at community-focused spaces in South Leeds up to £100+ for larger production studios. The differences that actually matter when comparing: whether lighting and backdrops are included or extra, whether the location adds travel and parking costs for you and your clients, and whether there's a team on site if something goes wrong.

Dock Street sits in the middle on price and, as far as we know, is the only city-centre option where the same building offers dry hire, a full content and podcast studio, and photography services under one roof. If you're comparing spaces, our studio hire checklist covers the questions worth asking any studio before you pay a deposit.
